Lagavulin 12 Year Special Release 2022 Single Malt Whisky

The 2022 Special Release of Lagavulin, titled "The Flames of the Phoenix," is designed to be the most phenolic Lagavulin yet. This release is a part of the "Elusive Expressions" collection, which contains bottles from eight legendary Scottish distilleries. The 12-year-old Islay single malt Scotch from Lagavulin stands out for its unique flavor profile. It was matured in American oak refill and virgin oak casks and bottled at 114.6 proof. This whisky features a balance of sweetness and spice, complemented by intense peat smoke notes.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Impressively smoky with hints of sweet grain, coffee, and vanilla.
• Palate: Tart citrus and slight saltiness, transitioning to a smoky flavor with a tingling sensation resembling a mild jalapeño pepper.
• Finish: Long-lasting with a distinct Lagavulin character.

The bottle's label features a fiery phoenix, symbolizing the spicy character of this release. The blend was mainly from refill casks to preserve the vibrant smokiness of Lagavulin spirit, with added spice from whiskies finished in virgin oak casks. This release is a testament to Lagavulin's commitment to producing intense, rich, and smoky single malt whiskies, a tradition they have upheld since 1816.
